Egai is a social enterprise unit based in Auroville, an international township near Puducherry, India. The units focuses primarily on sustainability, eco-friendly handicrafts, and community empowerment—particularly supporting local and women artisans in the Auroville bio-region.
Founded in 2019, Egai (which translates to “Giving” in Tamil) is a conscious craft initiative operating under the Auroville Foundation.
Every Egai creation carries a story of creativity, care, sustainability, and giving back.
Turning agricultural waste and natural materials – primarily coconut shells, palm leaves, bamboo and jute into lifestyle items.
Eco-friendly kitchenware (like nature’s coconut bowls), unique musical instruments (like rainsticks), home décor, and contemporary wearable art/accessories.
Host skill-development workshops to teach village youth and women traditional weaving and upcycling techniques, promoting anti-plastic awareness.
